The International school on “The Frontiers of Attosecond and Ultrafast X-ray Science” was held from 19th to 28th March 2017 in Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture, Erice, Sicily, Italy: The School was organized by Louis Di Mauro, Alicja Domaracka and Mauro Nisoli.
The main topics of the School were dedicated to attosecond science (generation and application of attosecond pulses to the investigation of electronic dynamics in atoms, molecules, nanostructures and condensed phases) and fundamentals, methods and applications of free electron lasers, synchrotron radiation, ion collisions in atomic and molecular science. The school hosted 76 trainees and 21 lecturers form 9 countries who gave 53 hours of teaching.
During coffees breaks participants presented their research in the form of posters. Scientific discussions took place till late nights during evening parties and during two half-day excursions.

The International school on “The Frontiers of Attosecond and Ultrafast X-ray Science” will be held from 19th to 28th March 2017 in Erice, Sicily, Italy.
The primary objective of this new school is to educate the next generation of scientists who will impact the future of attosecond and ultrafast x-ray science. We anticipate that the school will meet on a regular basis every two years and become a foundation for the ultrafast community. Consequently, the main topics of the course are the following: (i) attosecond science and technology, devoted to the generation and application of attosecond pulses to the investigation of electronic dynamics in atoms, molecules, nanostructures and condensed phases; (ii) fundamentals, methods and applications of free electron lasers, synchrotron radiation, ion collisions in atomic and molecular science. Lectures will cover current developments in theory and experiments but are also intended to give the basics of the field.

First XLIC Training School will take place in Zaragoza, at the premises of Z-CAM (http://www.z-cam.es/). It will be organized in two modules of one week each. Attendees can participate in one or both of them.

Registration should be done through CECAM website and separately for each module. When registering, please, do not forget to mention the XLIC node at which you are affiliated and the estimated cost for your travel expenses. Deadline for applications is January 31st, 2015.
Trainers will carry out a selection on the basis of the candidates’ CVs and inform them on the selection results at the latest by February 6th, 2015.
Financial support: XLIC Action will offer grants to partially cover the participation of young researchers involved in the Action. The number of grants and amount will depend on the number of requests for funding.
