The 4th Ultrafast Dynamic Imaging of Matter conference will focus on new techniques for imaging the dynamics of molecules and matter on ultrafast timescales, from femtoseconds to attoseconds. A special emphasis will lie on the applications of new sources, including X-ray free-electron lasers, high-harmonic sources, few-cycle laser pulses, and ultrashort electron pulses. ISMB2015 is the XXVI Edition of the Molecular Beams Conference series and will take place in Segovia, Spain, from the 28th of June to the 3rd of July 2015. The venue will be Parador Nacional de Segovia, an outstanding hotel and convention center located very close to medieval Segovia downtown, UNESCO Heritage city since 1985.
ISMB2015 will bring together scientists from all over the world to present and discuss the most recent advances in Molecular Beams Science, including reaction and photodissociation dynamics of neutral and ion molecules, ultrafast dynamics and coherent control, cold molecules, biomolecules, molecular clusters and helium droplets, liquid micro-jets and aerosols, beam-surface collisions, with contributions from both theory and experiment.
Following the tradition of the last Conferences, in this occasion ISMB2015 is dedicated to two outstanding scientists whose contributions and impact on Molecular Beams Science have been fundamental: Piergiorgio Casavecchia and Mike Ashfold, who will deliver plenary lectures in a special session in the afternoon of July 2, 2015.
The Conference format will include invited lectures, oral presentations selected among the abstract contributions, and poster sessions. The participation of young researchers and students is particularly welcome.
The day of arrival is Sunday, June 28, 2015, with registration during the afternoon and a reception in the evening. The program starts on Monday, June 29, 2015. The Conference will finish on the 3rd of July at midday, after a closure session.

The upcoming 16th International XAFS16 International Conference on X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (www.xafs16.org) will be held in Karlsruhe/Germany, August 23-28, 2015.
A 1-day symposium (organized within the main conference) entitled “Current and future opportunities for X-ray spectroscopies at XFELs”, will provide a broad overview of the current status and challenges for various types of X-ray spectroscopies at the recently operational X-ray Free Electron Laser Facilities (XFELs), including XAFS, non-resonant and resonant XES. The emphasis will be given to ultrafast time-resolved X-ray spectroscopic studies exploiting the unique and unprecedented brightness and ultrashort pulse duration of these 4th generation light sources exploiting both soft and hard X-radiation. It will also highlight the future opportunities for X-ray spectroscopies in the context of the rapidly improving XFEL technology.
We are now in the process of finalizing details of the symposium program and we would like to strongly encourage you to submit abstracts to XAFS16 concerning Session 17: “Spectroscopies at XFEL sources, Time-resolved and ultrafast techniques” (see the following link for a list of all topics for abstract submission: http://www.xafs16.org/26.php).
Both invited/contributed talks will be selected from the abstracts, next to poster presentations. The extended deadline for abstract submission for XAFS16 is in a few days only, March 15th, 2015.
The Workshop on Imaging with Femtosecond Electrons and X-ray pulses (IFEXS) will be held on February 1-3, 2016 at the Savoia Excelsior Palace in Trieste.
The workshop, jointly organized by CNR-IOM within the NFFA-Trieste facility programme and EPFL-Lausanne, aims to discuss the next frontier of ultrafast science regarding the advances of both electrons and photons based techniques with a special focus on the necessary cross-feeding between them.
Emphasis will be put on the complementary aspects of ultrafast electron microscopy and X-FEL based diffractive imaging techniques and on the future perspective of broadening the applicability of these tools by considering X-rays also as a chemically selective photo excitation and combining fs-X-ray beams with fs electron beams in an ad hoc modified Transmission Electron Microscope.
The program will comprise invited keynote lectures and poster presentations.
The workshop is open to all contributions (from theoretical, experimental, and simulation methods).
Deadline for submission of a two page abstract is January 7, 2016. Notification acceptance of poster presentation will be sent by January 13.

The DELOCALIZED ELECTRONS IN ATOMIC AND MOLECULAR NANOCLUSTERS will be held on July 22-28, 2016 in Erice (Sicily), Italy

PURPOSE: A wide range of important effects in nanoscience are connected with the presence and behavior of delocalized and mobile electrons. Nanoclusters, as important testbed systems for exploring and developing quantum size effects, novel materials, and reaction pathways exhibit a range of phenomena which are highly sensitive to delocalized electrons’ mobility, screening, response, direct and exchange interactions, correlations, etc.
However, these phenomena are frequently discussed in non-overlapping venues, and the aim of the present workshop is to bring together researchers in adjacent fields to examine recent and future developments. To keep the discussion focused, it will concentrate on free clusters and related systems.

Photochemical reactions have tremendous scientific importance, ranging from photosynthesis to atmospheric reactions, and technologies such as sensors or displays. Due to the intrinsic complexity of photochemical reactions, they remain the least understood type of chemical process. Nonadiabatic dynamics, ultrafast time-scales, quantum effects and conical intersections are known to be important, but a detailed comprehension remains elusive. However, new experimental techniques capable of monitoring photochemical processes in unprecedented detail are appearing. This includes the development of intense-laser techniques, the construction of free-electron lasers such as the XFEL in Europe and the LCLS in the USA, new sources of pulsed electrons, advanced detection techniques, and important advances in theoretical modelling of quantum dynamics. Many of these techniques are developed by research communities not traditionally concerned with photochemistry, but provide an opportunity to shed new light on photochemical dynamics.

COST will also fully reimburse those young researchers selected for oral contributions in the Young Scientist Forum and, depending on the budget, we will try to cover also expenses from other young participants.

Molecular reaction dynamics has become an integral part of modern chemistry and is set to become a cornerstone for much of the natural sciences. Molecular reaction dynamics is the study of elementary processes and the means of probing them, understanding them, and controlling them. It can be applied to reactions in solution and to reactions on surfaces, exploring the elementary steps in catalysis. Nowadays chemistry requires a molecular level understanding of the reactivity. Moreover, chemical kinetics in an old discipline (born in 1850) that deals with the rates of chemical reaction and how these rates depend on factors such as concentration and temperature. Although it in principle presents a macroscopic point of view, this can be directly related with the molecular point of view. Thus, kinetic or dynamic Monte Carlo simulations allow us to bridge the gap of many orders of magnitude in length and time scales between the processes on the molecular scale and the macroscopic kinetics.
The present school is open to European master and PhD students and postdocs with interest to understand chemical reactions at molecular level and to apply the theoretical and computational chemistry to this matter. First-year students of the Erasmus+ Master European in Theoretical Chemistry and Molecular Modelling will attend to this school as a part of their mandatory subjects although second-year students of this Master but from the rest of Europe it is expected that can attend too. Last year (2017) we made by first time this school and it was very successful.
The school will cover the principal aspects of the kinetics and dynamics of chemical reactions, centred mainly in the theoretical and computational approaches, although some experimental techniques will also be explained.
